Ingredients
- 🍔4 burger buns
- 🥔2 cup boiled potatoes, mashed
- 🟢¼ cup green peas, mashed
- 🍞¼ cup breadcrumbs
- 🧄1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 🌶️½ tsp red chili powder
- 🌶️½ tsp garam masala
- 🌿¼ cup coriander leaves, chopped
- 🌻2 tbsp oil for shallow frying
- 🧂 salt, to taste
- 🌿¼ cup mint chutney
- 🍯¼ cup tamarind chutney
- 🧅½ cup sliced onions
- 🍅½ cup sliced tomatoes
Pro tips
- For extra crispiness, add a tablespoon of rice flour or cornstarch to the aloo tikki mixture.
- Adjust the spice level by increasing or decreasing the red chili powder.
- You can air-fry or bake the tikkis instead of shallow frying for a healthier option.
- Add a slice of cheese or a dollop of yogurt to the burger for a creamy touch.
Method
- 1In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, mashed green peas, breadcrumbs, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, garam masala, chopped coriander leaves, and salt. Mix well to form a cohesive mixture.
- 2Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a flat, round patty (tikki).
- 3Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Shallow fry the tikkis for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 4Slice the burger buns horizontally and lightly toast them on the same pan or in a toaster.
- 5Spread mint chutney on one half of the bun and tamarind chutney on the other half.
- 6Place a fried aloo tikki on the bottom bun. Top with sliced onions and tomatoes.
- 7Cover with the top bun to assemble the burger. Repeat for the remaining burgers.
- 8Serve immediately with extra chutneys or a side of fries.
