Ingredients
- 🥚1 large egg
- 💧2 cup water
- 🧂⅛ tsp salt
Pro tips
- For easier peeling, use eggs that are a week or two old, not super fresh ones.
- Adjust cooking time for desired yolk consistency: 5 mins for jammy, 10 mins for hard-boiled.
- A small splash of vinegar in the boiling water can help prevent whites from escaping if the shell cracks.
Method
- 1Place the egg carefully into a small saucepan.
- 2Add enough cold water to cover the egg by about an inch.
- 3Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.
- 4Once boiling, immediately reduce heat to low, cover the pan, and cook for 7 minutes for a firm but slightly tender yolk.
- 5After 7 minutes, remove the egg with a slotted spoon and plunge it into an ice bath for 2-3 minutes to stop the cooking and make it easier to peel.
- 6Gently tap the egg all over on a hard surface, then peel under cool running water or in the ice bath.
- 7Slice in half lengthwise and sprinkle with a pinch of salt before serving.
