Ingredients

  • 🥚1 large egg
  • 🌶️ black pepper, to taste

Pro tips

  • For easier peeling, use eggs that are a few days old, not super fresh.
  • Adjust cooking time for desired yolk consistency: 6 mins for soft, 7 mins for jammy, 8 mins for firm.
  • Add a pinch of salt to the boiling water to help prevent cracking.

Method

  1. 1Carefully place the egg in a small saucepan.
  2. 2Cover the egg with water by about an inch.
  3. 3Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.
  4. 4Once boiling, immediately remove the pan from the heat, cover, and let it sit for 7-8 minutes for a firm yolk.
  5. 5After the time is up, drain the hot water and transfer the egg to an ice bath or run under cold water for 1-2 minutes to stop the cooking process and aid in peeling.
  6. 6Gently crack and peel the egg under cold running water for easier removal of the shell.
  7. 7Serve immediately, seasoned with fresh black pepper.
