Ingredients
- 🥚1 large egg
- 💧2 cup water
- 🧂¼ tsp salt
Pro tips
- Use older eggs (about 7-10 days old) as they are generally easier to peel than very fresh ones.
- Cracking the egg gently all around before peeling under water can help the shell come off cleanly.
- For soft-boiled eggs, reduce the standing time to 4-6 minutes; for medium, 7-9 minutes.
Method
- 1Carefully place the egg into a small saucepan.
- 2Add enough cold water to completely cover the egg by about one inch.
- 3Add salt to the water, then bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat.
- 4Once boiling, immediately remove the saucepan from the heat, cover it with a lid, and let it stand for 10-12 minutes for a firm yolk.
- 5While the egg cooks, prepare an ice bath by filling a bowl with ice and cold water.
- 6After the standing time, transfer the egg to the ice bath using a slotted spoon and let it cool for at least 5 minutes.
- 7Peel the egg under cold running water for easier shell removal, then serve as desired.
