Ingredients

  • 🥚1 large egg
  • 🍶1 tsp soy sauce
  • SESAME¼ tsp sesame oil
  • 🌶️ tsp chili flakes
  • 💧 water

Pro tips

  • For an easier peel, add a pinch of salt or a teaspoon of vinegar to the boiling water.
  • Adjust cooking time for desired yolk consistency: 6 minutes for jammy, 7 minutes for soft-set, 9 minutes for very firm.
  • This makes a great quick snack or a protein boost for salads and noodle dishes.

Method

  1. 1Carefully place the egg in a small saucepan and cover with water, ensuring at least one inch of water above the egg.
  2. 2Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling, immediately reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan, and set a timer for 8 minutes for a firm yolk.
  3. 3While the egg cooks, prepare an ice bath in a small bowl.
  4. 4Once 8 minutes are up, carefully transfer the cooked egg to the ice bath using a slotted spoon. Let it cool for at least 2 minutes.
  5. 5Gently tap the egg on a hard surface to crack the shell, then peel under cool running water for easier removal.
  6. 6Slice the peeled egg in half lengthwise and arrange on a small plate.
  7. 7Drizzle with soy sauce, sesame oil, and sprinkle with chili flakes.
