Ingredients

  • 🥚4 large eggs
  • 💧4 cup water
  • 🧂½ tsp salt
  • 🧊 ice

Pro tips

  • Using slightly older eggs (about 7-10 days old) often results in easier peeling than very fresh eggs.
  • For easier peeling, crack the egg all around its circumference then roll it gently on a counter before peeling.
  • Adjust the resting time for your preferred doneness: 6-7 mins for jammy yolks, 8-9 mins for firm but creamy yolks, and 10-12 mins for fully set, pale yellow yolks.

Method

  1. 1Carefully place eggs in a single layer at the bottom of a saucepan.
  2. 2Add enough cold water to cover the eggs by about an inch. Stir in the salt.
  3. 3Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling, immediately turn off the heat.
  4. 4Cover the saucepan with a lid and let the eggs sit in the hot water for 9-12 minutes for hard-boiled, depending on desired doneness.
  5. 5While eggs are sitting, prepare an ice bath by filling a bowl with ice and cold water.
  6. 6Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked eggs from the hot water directly into the ice bath. Let them cool for at least 5 minutes.
  7. 7Gently crack and peel the eggs under cool running water or in the ice bath for easier peeling.
