Ingredients
- 🥛2 cup buttermilk (low-fat)
- 🌿¼ cup fresh mint leaves
- 🫚½ inch ginger, peeled
- 🌶️½ green chili (optional)
- 🔥½ tsp roasted cumin powder
- 🧂¼ tsp black salt (kala namak)
- 🌶️¼ tsp chaat masala
- 🧂 salt, to taste
- 🧊2 ice cubes
Pro tips
- For a richer taste, you can use homemade buttermilk by whisking yogurt with water.
- Adjust the amount of green chili to your spice preference, or omit for a milder drink.
- A quick tempering (tadka) of mustard seeds and curry leaves can be added for extra flavor.
- Always serve chilled; it's most refreshing that way!
Method
- 1Combine buttermilk, fresh mint leaves, peeled ginger, and green chili (if using) in a blender.
- 2Add roasted cumin powder, black salt, chaat masala, and a pinch of regular salt to the blender.
- 3Blend until all ingredients are well combined and the mint and ginger are finely chopped.
- 4Taste and adjust seasoning if needed, adding more salt or spices as desired.
- 5Pour the spiced buttermilk into serving glasses and add ice cubes.
- 6Garnish with a fresh mint sprig or a sprinkle of cumin powder, and serve immediately.
