Ingredients
- 🐟1 can tuna in water, drained
- 🥣2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 🥬1 stalk celery, finely diced
- 🧅¼ ea small red onion, finely minced
- 🍞2 slices sourdough bread
- 🧀2 slices cheddar cheese
- 🧈1 tbsp butter
- 🧂 salt and black pepper, to taste
Pro tips
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of paprika or a dash of hot sauce to the tuna salad.
- Use different types of cheese like Swiss or provolone for variety.
- Don't press down on the sandwich too hard while cooking, as this can make it soggy.
- Toast the bread lightly before assembling for a crispier texture.
Method
- 1In a medium bowl, flake the drained tuna with a fork. Add mayonnaise, diced celery, minced red onion, salt, and pepper.
- 2Mix well until all ingredients are combined and the tuna salad is creamy.
- 3Spread butter evenly on one side of each sourdough bread slice.
- 4Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Top with one slice of cheddar cheese.
- 5Spoon the tuna salad mixture over the cheese, spreading it evenly.
- 6Top with the second slice of cheddar cheese, then place the other slice of bread, butter-side up, on top.
- 7Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- 8Remove from pan, slice in half, and serve immediately.
