Ingredients

  • 🐟1 can tuna in water, drained
  • 🥣2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 🥬1 stalk celery, finely diced
  • 🧅¼ ea small red onion, finely minced
  • 🍞2 slices sourdough bread
  • 🧀2 slices cheddar cheese
  • 🧈1 tbsp butter
  • 🧂 salt and black pepper, to taste

Pro tips

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of paprika or a dash of hot sauce to the tuna salad.
  • Use different types of cheese like Swiss or provolone for variety.
  • Don't press down on the sandwich too hard while cooking, as this can make it soggy.
  • Toast the bread lightly before assembling for a crispier texture.

Method

  1. 1In a medium bowl, flake the drained tuna with a fork. Add mayonnaise, diced celery, minced red onion, salt, and pepper.
  2. 2Mix well until all ingredients are combined and the tuna salad is creamy.
  3. 3Spread butter evenly on one side of each sourdough bread slice.
  4. 4Place one slice of bread, butter-side down, in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Top with one slice of cheddar cheese.
  5. 5Spoon the tuna salad mixture over the cheese, spreading it evenly.
  6. 6Top with the second slice of cheddar cheese, then place the other slice of bread, butter-side up, on top.
  7. 7Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. 8Remove from pan, slice in half, and serve immediately.
